Two poles and a win for Hancock in Scotland
Sam Hancock took his third Porsche Carrera Cup GB victory of the season in race 2 at Knockhill and enjoyed an excellent weekend overall with two pole positions and a second place finish in race 1.
Race 1
Sam’s pole position time was one hundredth of a second quicker than Tim Bridgman but he lost his lead off the grid as the Team Parker Racing driver made a slightly better start. A long Safety Car period then nullified the race meaning only four laps remained at the re-start. Hancock pushed to regain his lead but also had to defend from team-mate Phil Quaife in the dying stages, ultimately holding him off to secure second place.
Race 2
Hancock made a much better start to race 2 and completed a lights-to-flag victory. He pulled out a two second gap in the early stages but saw that advantage wiped out by a another Safety Car period. After the restart, Michael Caine closed to within half a second, but Sam controlled the gap and managed his tyre wear to take victory at the chequered flag.
And as an added reward for his collective efforts of Saturday and Sunday, Sam picked up the much coveted Driver of the Weekend accolade.
Sam Hancock: “The tyres were starting to go off at the end which made the win far from easy. But the start was crucial. I was a little frustrated with what happened in race 1, so I thought a lot about my start in between the races and analysed the data to make sure I improved for race 2.
“I suppose Knockhill is becoming one of my favourite circuits having won here last year as well! But I couldn’t have done this without the team who gave me a great car this weekend so a huge thanks to all of them.”
